Community Guidelines
Version: 1.0 · Effective: July 11, 2026
Our Mission
Runner’s Review exists to help runners find the right races through honest, helpful reviews from the running community. These guidelines help keep our community constructive, respectful, and trustworthy.
Review Content
What Makes a Great Review
We encourage reviews that help other runners make informed decisions:
- Be specific: Describe the course, organization, atmosphere, and logistics
- Be honest: Share your genuine experience, both positive and negative
- Be constructive: If something was disappointing, explain what could be improved
- Be relevant: Focus on aspects that matter to runners (course accuracy, aid stations, crowd support, post-race amenities)
- Rate fairly: Use the full rating scale — a 5-star review should mean exceptional, not just “okay”
Review Standards
Your reviews should:
- Reflect your actual participation in or experience with the race
- Contain factual, verifiable information where possible
- Be written in your own words
- Be respectful of race organizers, volunteers, and other runners
Prohibited Review Content
The following content is not allowed in reviews:
- Fake reviews: Reviews for races you did not attend or participate in
- Manipulated ratings: Coordinated efforts to inflate or deflate a race’s rating
- Spam: Promotional content, advertisements, or irrelevant material
- Personal attacks: Targeting specific individuals by name with insults or threats
- Hate speech: Content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Harassment: Threatening, intimidating, or bullying language
- Illegal content: Content that promotes or facilitates illegal activity
- Plagiarism: Copying reviews from other users or platforms
Photo Guidelines
Acceptable Photos
We welcome photos that capture the race experience:
- Race photos and finish line shots
- Course scenery and landmarks
- Group photos with other runners (with their consent)
- Medal, bib, and swag photos
- Aid station and race expo photos
Prohibited Photos
The following types of photos are not allowed:
- Nudity or sexually explicit content
- Violence or graphic imagery
- Hate symbols or discriminatory content
- Copyrighted images you do not own
- Photos of individuals without their consent (if they are the primary subject)
- Photos unrelated to running or the race experience
Automated Moderation
All uploaded photos are automatically screened using content-moderation technology (Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch). Photos the automated screen flags as potentially violating our guidelines are quarantined — held and not published — pending manual review by the Company. A quarantined photo stays unpublished until it is reviewed and either approved or removed.
User Conduct
Be Respectful
- Treat other community members with courtesy and respect
- Disagree constructively — focus on the content, not the person
- Use the helpfulness voting system to surface quality reviews
Prohibited Behavior
The following behaviors are not allowed:
- Impersonation: Pretending to be another person, race organizer, or entity
- Abuse of features: Using the flagging or voting system to harass others
- Account manipulation: Creating multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions or manipulate content
- Circumvention: Attempting to bypass content moderation or security measures
- Data scraping: Using automated tools to extract data from the App
Enforcement
Graduated Response
We follow a graduated enforcement approach:
| Level | Action | Trigger |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Warning | Notification about the specific violation | First minor violation |
| 2. Content Removal | Offending content removed, user notified | Repeated minor violations or single moderate violation |
| 3. Temporary Suspension | Account suspended for a defined period | Continued violations after warning, or single serious violation |
| 4. Permanent Ban | Account permanently terminated | Severe violations, illegal activity, or continued violations after suspension |

- Off-topic content in reviews
- Mildly inappropriate language
- Unintentional guideline violations

- Repeated minor violations after warning
Severe violations (may result in immediate suspension or ban):
- Hate speech or threats of violence
